The rise of a Technocratic Utopia

The Great Collapse

Before Nivixia rose, the country was in chaos. It was once ruled by democratic ideals, promising equality and welfare, but underneath, the system was failing. Mismanagement, inefficiency, and the growing burden of an aging population weighed heavily on the nation. A series of deadly epidemics struck, mostly affecting the elderly. Each wave worsened the country’s economy. The government, already drowning in debt, spent huge amounts to keep the elderly alive. Public unrest grew as the situation spiraled out of control. In this moment of collapse, a group of scientists and thinkers—later called the Technarchs—stepped forward. They believed the nation’s future required radical change, starting with eliminating the unsustainable care for the elderly.

The silent coup

The Technarchs, respected for their intelligence and scientific expertise, began to gain power. While the government struggled with the growing crises, this group proposed a bold, logical solution focused on survival. They argued that for society to move forward, it had to cut away what was holding it back—primarily, the care of the elderly. Supported by intellectuals and a public desperate for change, their influence grew. In a swift, peaceful takeover, the Technarchs seized control. The old democracy, too weak to resist, quietly faded. The new leaders named the country Nivixia. Their first move was to abolish the welfare state, closing retirement homes and ending pensions, declaring an end to elderly care.

The cleansing years

The elderly who partake in the Final Offering in Nivixia can be called "The Honored". This title reflects the respect given to those who have completed their contributions to society and are now fulfilling their final civic duty. It emphasizes their importance in Nivixian culture, as they are seen not as a burden, but as individuals who have achieved and served with distinction, offering one last act of honor to the state.

The library

The oldest library in the world became a key part of society, seen as a symbol of knowledge and achievement. It held vast collections of scientific texts and technological innovations, serving as a busy center for scholars and inventors. The library represents Nivixia's dedication to reason and learning, highlighting a society where knowledge was the most valued currency. In the middle of the library there’s a huge tree called ‘the tree of life’. On this tree are millions of small tags with the names of those who have completed their Final Offering. In that central space of society, they’re honored as heroes.
